IMPHAL | Sept 25 : Demanding to release the arrested teachers and students of Manipur University and to bring normalcy, students from three institutes demonstrated protest, and at least three students got injured when police fired tear gas and mock bomb to disperse the protestors.
Students of Tamphasana Higher Secondary School and CC Higher Secondary School demonstrated protest under the said demand today at around 2:30 pm in front of their respective schools.
When students of CC Higher Secondary tried to come out from the campus, Imphal East police blocked them at the school gate. After hours of negotiation, police tension arose between the two parties where confrontation took place in front of school gate. To control the situation police fired tear gas shells and mock bomb.
Students also pelted stones towards police personnel and at least three students of the said school were injured with the stones pelted from the side of police personnel. Some police personnel were also injured. As the injuries were minor no one was taken to hospital.
After the situation was controlled, general secretary of CC Higher Secondary School, Bachaspatimayum Roshan Sharma said Manipur University is like a temple for students. Currently, no one is allowed to enter the university without permission but how can huge number of police personnel and para military forces enter during the wee hour, he questioned.
He appealed the state government to release the arrested teachers and students without any condition so as to bring normalcy in the university.
The students of Dhanamanjuri College also came out to the streets to protest against the incident in university boy’s hostel.
The students who were marching towards the chief minister bungalow were intercepted by the police near Manipur Press Club. After a confrontation between the students and the police, the police fired tear gas and disperse the students from the spot.
Meanwhile, students of Tamphasana Higher Secondary School came out from the campus to demonstrate protest demanding to fulfil the said demands. Imphal West police personnel rushed to control the demonstration. Students held placards saying ‘We strongly condemn the act of police force’, ‘Respect the student community’, ‘Release the arrested teachers and students unconditionally’ and others.
They were planning to march towards the chief minister bungalow but intercepted by the police in front of the school itself.
