Manipur : Student Bodies call for 48 hours state bandh from midnight today

Imphal (Manipur ) , Sept 26 : A banner organization of students’ bodies in Manipur has called for statewide bandh from the midnight today in protest against the ‘atrocities’ committed by Manipur Police on the students of Manipur University where stalemate has returned three days back.
The bandh has been called jointly by the All Manipur Student Union (AMSU), Manipuri Student Federation (MSF), Kangleipak Student Association (KSA), SUK, DESAM and AIMS .
The state machinery has shut down internet since September 21 after the raid fearing law and order problems .
Meanwhile , the agitating Manipur University Student Union (MUSU), Manipur University Teacher Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA) have decided not to co-operate with the inquiry committee constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to investigate into the allegations hurled at Prof AP Pandey as they feel transparency, truth and capability of the inquiry committee to be independent have been compromised. They will immediately withdraw their acceptance of the inquiry committee and stop co-operating with it.
The three organizations also demanded that a commission of inquiry under the Commission of Inquiry Act 1952 should immediately be instituted in place of the two-men Inquiry Committee.
They also demanded that the students and teachers, who have been taken into custody by the state police , should be released immediately without any pre-condition.
According to information available the administration have resorted to heavy deployment of women police personnel in the varsity campus because of the hunger strike of girl students.
Two ambulances have been position in the varsity campus to deal with emergency situation in case any of the fasting girls falls sick. Meanwhile, most of boarders of the varsity hostels have left because of the fresh stalemate dogging the university.
The University had just resumed its functioning after it had remained such for about three months since May 30 last.
