IMPHAL | Jul 31 : The staff of Thoubal district hospital today organised a sit-in-protest today at the gate of directorate of health services, Lamphelpat condemning the ‘life attempt life on doctors on duty’ and destruction of hospital asset.
While briefing media persons, an agitating staff nurse, Leishangthem Angoubi stated that on July 28, a child rescued from drowning was admitted to hospital.
The doctors tried to save the rescued child with their best effort but unfortunately succumbed on that day itself and discharged from the hospital, she added.
She continued that the patient family brought back the deceased child to the hospital in the evening and claimed that ‘the child was still alive’, however the claim was totally wrong when the health professional checked it.
The local people allegedly charged that “the child died due to the recklessness of the doctors” and subsequently the agitating mob destroyed hospital properties and beat up two doctors, pathologist Dr. Kalidas and ENT specialist, Dr. Suraj severely, she lamented.
The staffs of hospital complained that they are insecure to work in such environment and hence they urged state government to provide appropriate security measures in the hospital. They demanded to give befitting punishment to those involved in the violence.
Angoubi maintained that the staff members had unanimously decided to conduct a cease work if their demand is not fulfilled.
The protestors said, “Doctors are not God, doctors cannot bring back the dead to life”, “Right or wrong, violence is not the solution.”
