👆 *Unrecognized by own country, Dr Raghuram Rajan appointed as Governor of Bank of England*

London: Dr Raghuram Rajan has been appointed as the Governor of Bank of England. He replaced Mark Carney. He has become the highest paid banker in the world with a salary of 874000 pounds a year. It is also to be noted that Raghuram Rajan was the first non-western and the youngest at 40 to become the chief economist at the International Monetary Fund.
Raghuram is the former governor of the Reserve Bank of India. The Financial Times stated, “Attracting Raghuram Rajan, the highly-respected Chicago-based economist and former RBI governor, would be a coup”. Ironically Raghuram Rajan was not recognised in his own country. As RBI governor, Rajan’s policies and views drew ire from senior members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Since he’d held on to his US green card, he wasn’t deemed “mentally fully Indian”.
